First GSCL Tutorial Talk

January 11, 2021: This Wednesday, January 13th, 2021, our first GSCL Tutorial Talk will take place at 4 p.m. The speaker is Prof. Dr. Casey Redd Kennington (Boise State University) on "Dialogue and Robots for Understanding Understanding". Meeting of Members 2020

Oct 21, 2020 -- Annemarie Friedrich. On October 21, 2020, this year's meeting of members took place virtually. We thank all participants for their time, the constructive discussions and their readiness to take over a variety of tasks that are of great importance to our society. A new special interest group on "Computational Linguistics for the Political and Social Sciences" was presented and approved by the general meeting. In addition, the meeting decided that from 2021 on, the elections of the Executive and Advisory Boards will take place online. Also, from 2021 on, student memberships in the GSCL will be free. The KONVENS 2021 conference will take place in Düsseldorf (probably with parallel virtual participation options).

SwissText & KONVENS Joint Conference 2020

July 1, 2020 -- Annemarie Friedrich. From June 23-25, 2020, the Joint SwissText and KONVENS Conference [link], originally planned to be located in Zürich, took place online. SwissText has been organized by the Zürich University of Applied Sciences since 2016. KONVENS is an annual conference on Natural Language Processing usually taking place in Germany or Austria, sponsored by GSCL. The conference program featured the presentation of 38 papers or demos, four shared tasks as well as invited talks by Anya Belz, Roberto Navigli and Holger Schwenk. 132 participants from academia, government organizations and industry attended the virtual conference. The GSCL KONVENS 2020 Online Scholarship was awarded to Ian Clotworthy from the University of Potsdam.

The GSCL offers scholarships in the form of the registration fee for attending online conference KONVENS 2020. Young scientists in the Bachelor or Master phase are eligible to apply. [More information - in German]

GSCL Award 2020 for best Doctoral Thesis

The German Society for Computational Linguistics (GSCL) is to award a prize for an excellent doctoral thesis in the field of language technology / computational linguistics once every two years.
